Listed above are  "time charts" and "beaten-lengths" charts for Louisiana Downs. We have taken all races run at Louisiana Downs over the last 4 years and broken them down into various levels and categories for distance, age, sex, surface,  race types, and conditions, to obtain a accurate set of par-times. We disregarded all races that were run on any type of "off" track using only the races that were labeled "fast" and "firm"

The first chart listed is the Speed Ratings Chart for the main track. It is separated into two sections, sprints and routes. Unlike the Route Chart, the Speed Chart is also a conversion chart. If a horse ran 5 furlongs in 1:00.2 in his last race, he should run 6 furlongs in 1:13.1.  We then took each distance and assigned the appropriate rating for each individual time. You will find a separate chart for Speed Ratings on the Franks (Sawyer) Turf Course, in both "about distances" and "exact distances."

We have included a "Beaten Lengths" Chart which gives the "amount" of points to deduct for the lengths a horse was beaten at any particular distance. Next we have the "Intermediate Time Adjustment" Chart (Pace Chart). Using this chart we award or deduct points for pace of the race.

An Example: A horse finished 4th in a 7 furlong race where he was beaten 5-1/2 lengths in a final time of 1:23.2. The 1/2 mile time was :45.1.

First apply the "track variant" for sprint races that were run on that day. (IMPORTANT: You must maintain a daily track variant chart.

Let's say the track variant indicated that the track was fast by 2 fifths of a second on that day. We add the 2 fifths to the final time of 1:23.2 for an adjusted time of 1:23.4. Next we go to our Speed Rating Chart and see that the final time of 1:23.4 in a 7 furlong race is rated 88. Our horse was beaten 5-1/2 lengths so we find 5-1/2 on the Beaten Lengths Chart and see that is a deduction of 10 points. We now have a rating of 78. Now go to the Intermediate Time Chart (Pace Chart) and take the 1/2 mile time of :45.1. We can add 2 points for that pace figure to bring the horses final adjusted speed rating to 80.
