breaking news
A Minden Church congregation had reason to celebrate this weekend.
Sunday, dirt was turned to rebuild the Mount Zion C.M.E. Church.
The original church stood for more than 135-years. It was destroyed by fire last July.
At the dedication service, members took turns reading scripture and singing.
They are glad a new church is beginning to take shape.
"Oh, it is so exciting and I feel so good, I told them I was so happy today, the program was so good," said 56-year member, Cleonia Martin.
Members have been worshiping in a near-by funeral home and rented building for the last year. The new church is expected to be complete next March.
