Updated: February 5, 2007
It happened shortly after 7 a.m. Monday near the intersection of LA 175 and LA 5. Troopers say a 12 passenger van was traveling west on LA 5, when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. Two people were ejected. One died at the scene and the other died on the way to the hospital. Four people, including the driver were are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. As of Monday evening, no names were released. The van belongs to the DeSoto Association of Retarded Citizens and was on the way to the agency at the time of the crash. "Someone swerved in front of our driver. He in turn tried to avoid that vehicle. While trying to avoid it, he lost control flipping several times," said D.A.R.C. Board of Directors President Richard Johnson. D.A.R.C. drivers are not required to have a commercial license. Johnson tells us that the, the driver involved in the crash does have a clean driving record. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
