Two Die In Fatal Crash

Updated: January 7, 2009
Two elderly women from Bossier Paish are dead tonight, after police say their car crossed into the path of a tow truck. Investigators say the women were headed westbound down highway 80 near Judy Lane, Shortly after 8 am, when they tried to make a U-turn. Deputies say the roads were slick. Early morning fog might have made it difficult for the driver to see an oncoming vehicle. A tow truck carrying two SUV`s plowed into the side of the women`s Chevy Cavalier. Greenwood Police Chief J.D. Dunn says the crash was unavoidable. "The car was stopped and attempted to U-turn in front of him. He tried to avoid it but couldn`t." Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to get one of the ladies out of the vehicle. Sadly, both elderly women died at the scene. They have been identified as 77-year-old Gloria Moore and 74-year-old Joyce Carmichael of Elm Grove. Investigators do not think speed played a role in the crash, but the cause is still under investigation.
