Hazardous Weather Driving Tips

Updated: January 7, 2009
Highway safety experts say drivers often don`t take the proper precautions when traveling through fog. But there are a few things you can do to help stay safe. "The main thing is reduce speed. Speed kills and in hazardous weather conditions, speed is the number one culprit," said Ed Baswell, Public Information Officer for Bossier Parish Police. -Turn on your lights but make sure you are using your low beams. -If you need to pull over, slow down gradually and don`t make any sudden stops. -And if you pull over, be sure to turn on your flashers and pull all the way off the road. Even if you follow all these safety measures, Baswell says you should still be on the look out for other drivers that may not be as cautious. "There are always those one or two that are going way too fast. And those are the ones that cause the accidents and we end up with tragic stories," said Baswell.
