You could call it a changing of the guards at the Caddo Parish Courthouse.
Sheriff Steve Prator announced his office will begin handling courthouse security starting January 1st. Currently, a private company handles security but Prator feels the Courthouse and the District Attorney`s Office should be better protected.
The Caddo Commission will pay 225,000 dollars for the services.
The new guards are either retired law enforcement or security. They were sworn in Wednesday morning.
"Everyone will have tazers, chemical spray, or a glock like we carry. There is going to be added responsibility along with the training," said Sheriff Prator.
Another added bonus to the Sheriff`s take over, the Milam Street entrance will reopen. It`s been closed for two years.
