(Baghdad) -- The last battalion of U.S. Marines is leaving Iraq, turning
over military control of the once-rebellious Anbar province to the U.S. Army.
The Marines had been in the area for the past seven years, bearing the
brunt of most of the fighting.
The Army troops will concentrate not on warfare, but training Iraqi forces
to take over when the U.S. completes its withdrawal from Iraq.
The Marines were the first American forces to arrive in Iraq in the
invasion that began in March, 2003.
