Local Pearl Harbor Survivor Shares Memories

Today marks the 65th anniversary of one of the saddest days in American History.
Nearly 2,400 Americans were killed when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on pearl harbor.
A local man survived it all. 87-year-old, Bob Elswick is a resident of Marshall, Texas. He was born in Illinois and moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he was drafted in 1941.
He was about to turn 23-years-old when he received orders to serve at Tripler Hospital in Oaha, Hawaii.
When the attacks took place Elswick was called to help the wounded soldiers at the hospital.
All memories he doesn`t really like to talk about.
"Just going through Pearl Harbor, it really was murder. The Japs just flew in there unannounced at 8 o`clock Sunday morning, they just blew up everything," said Elswick.
Elswick served in Hawaii for three more years after the attack, he considers himself one of the lucky ones.
