(Baton Rouge) -- Governor Bobby Jindal has written a letter to U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson, objecting to the
agencys plan to regulate greenhouse gases thought to be responsible for
climate change.
The governor says the EPA is attempting to an end run around Congress by
proposing a plan that contains elements of what is known as the "Cap and
Trade" bill thats been introduced on Capitol Hill.
Jindal says the new regulations would have a "dramatic, chilling effect" on
the states energy refining and producing capabilities and will severely
impact the creation of jobs.
The letter to Jackson was also signed by the heads of the state departments
of Natural Resources and Economic Development.
Similar letters were previously written and sent by the director of the
state Workforce Commission and the secretary of the Department of
Environmental Quality.
