My Space Predators

Updated: February 6, 2007
Millions of young people are spending increasingly more time on the internet each day, especially on My Space. It`s an online community that now has more than one hundred million members world wide. Recently 13 My Space members had online profiles or pictures that strongly resembled sex offenders on file with the Texas DPS. Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says "the internet seems to be the vogue place now where these sex offenders are trying to get to our kids". The sheriff says while there is no law preventing sex offenders from having a My Space account parents should be watchdogs when it comes to their children. Prator said "every time I talk to a group of parents I just encourage them to monitor what your kids are doing on the internet. The sheriffs department offers computer knowledge programs for free. If you feel the need to set up a course you can contact the sheriff at 318-681-0666.
