Parents and Students Witness School Shooting

It was a typical Friday morning at Booker T. Washington High School until gunfire filled the air. Police tell NBC 6 News the suspected gunman, Tony Holden, was waiting in the school driveway for 18-year-old Tammie Spates. Next, Chief of Police Henry Whitehorn said Holden shot Spates multiple times.

Senior Quinetta Johnson saw the incident unfold.

"He struck the first bullet at her and he was running. He had struck it again and by time he struck the second bullet he ended up catching up with her and grab her,” said Johnson.

Johnson tells NBC 6 News she thought Holden was going to kill Spates. Spates was rushed to LSU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Many students went home with their parents just hours after school began.
