Witnesses saw her arguing with 28-year old Tony Holden outside the school. According to police, he then pulled a gun and shot her in the neck, shoulder and side and left the scene. Spates was transported to LSU Health Sciences Center in critical condition.
The school was placed on lockdown and classes continued but parents were allowed to pick up students from school.
Police caught Holden after a lengthy foot chase near the 2900 block of Portland Avenue. He is charged with attempted second degree murder and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Shreveport Police Department Public Information Officer Cpl. Bill Gooden told NBC 6 News in order to be charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, Holden must have been in a relationship with Spates since she was 15-years old.
Family members confirm Spates had been in an on-going relationship with Holden, but she had recently broken things off.
Late Friday night, Spates was still in ICU, listed in serious condition.
