ICE: Holiday Event

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Christmas spirit can be felt in Shreveport as thousands flock to Festival Plaza. When you think of Christmas in Shreveport, Louisiana, the "Winter Wonderland" part is often left out. This year children are trading in their roller blades for a new pair of skates. For the first time ever, You can ice skate in Festival Plaza. Red River Revel Director Kip Holloway says this year`s "Ice:Holiday Event" is an attempt to raise funds for the organization that puts on the Arts Festival each fall. " It is intended to make it easier for the Red River Revel to operate, so that we aren`t dependent on just eight days of earned income." While some slip and slide on the ice, others can look for arts, crafts and Christmas gifts. The holiday event is already attracting large crowds. Holloway is just glad the Revel has an opportunity to give back to the community and keep downtown Shreveport alive. The holiday market at Festival Plaza is open this weekend. You can ice skate through New Year`s Eve.
