Nbc 6 reporter Karen Hopkins talked with people here about their concerns, and how you can find the facts. Jacqueline Conner of Bossier City and Shannon Keys of Benton both have strong opinions on health care reform, well get to those later. But first a look at their insurance now. “If we have a late night trip to the emergency room or if I become pregnant again, it comes in handy.” Keys says her husbands employer provides coverage for the family. Conner uses Medicare, but says it’s not enough. So she spends 15 percent of her social security check for supplemental insurance. As for health care reform, "everything seems like an advertisement. I dont know what to believe." For the full truth, you can read the entire plan that just passed through the senate finance committee online. Here’s the link: http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:cw6xsmluo3IJ:finance.senate.gov/healthreform2009/finalwhitepaper.pdf+where+to+read+baucus+plan%3F&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us The key points of the plan are to make it easier for people to buy coverage and require all Americans to have health insurance; 46 million people currently have no coverage. “Ive been there, I know what thats about,” Conner said. But Conner says shes against giving insurance to all Americans. She says people should work for it. As for Keys, "I want to keep my freedom of choice. Little by little the government is taking our freedoms away. The government already runs the banks, the auto industry.” Keys says shes speaking out because having good healthcare affects us all.
