Healthcare Focus Of Dems, Republicans

By: RNS
Updated: October 10, 2009
(Washington, DC) -- The White House is continuing its full court press for instituting a major overhaul of the nations healthcare industry. In President Obamas weekly radio address today, he told listeners attacking waste and fraud within the system will slow the growth in healthcare costs without adding a dime to our deficits. A Congressional Budget Office analysis said a plan before the Senate Finance Committee would cost taxpayers about $829-billion over a ten-year period and reduce the federal deficit by $81-billion. On the GOP side, Senator George LeMieux of Florida took issue with that cost estimate, saying its true cost is at least one-point-eight-trillion dollars over ten years.
