Family Hires Lawyer After Police Kill Father/Husband

Updated: October 8, 2009
The family of the man shot and killed by two Bossier City Police officers has hired a lawyer to investigate the incident. On Friday, October 2nd an officer shot 42-year old Scott Gray. Police Chief Mike Halphen says he attacked the other officer.

The Gray family has hired Elton Richey Junior to do his own investigation. So far Richey says they have uncovered several facts that contradict the claim Gray reached for the officers weapon. The attorney says Gray was engaging the officers in a fist-fight. He urges witnesses to come forward. "A witness never knows whether what they saw is important or not important, they just have a piece of the puzzle because few witnesses see everything in detail."

Richey has asked the chief to share their findings "We take him at his word, and hope that he will honor that statement by providing access to the information, statements and evidence gathered during his investigation."

One witness tried to video the events with a cellphone and took one picture. Her cell phone was confiscated by police according to Richey. So far, no lawsuits have been filed.  Richey says the family just wants to find out the truth surrounding the shooting.

The investigation is on-going. Gray's funeral is Friday, October 9th. An account has been opened at Capital One Bank where contributions can be made the Gray family. He leaves behind a wife and two sons who are 14 and 21-years old.

If you know anything about the shooting, or events leading up the shooting call police.  Richey's office can be reached at (318) 227-1460.
