Parents across the state of Texas are scrambling to get their kids vaccinated. Starting October 1st, students will not be allowed in school if they havent received their shots or a waiver.

"Its almost like a no-pass, no play. Youve got to get it done before you go any further," parent Jim Kale said.

Health officials at Marshall Independent School District tell us most of their kids are ready to go.

"The majority of our students are in compliance at this point. The parents did a great job over the summer and the ones that arent, we are notifying the parents," Teresa Crandall with the district said.

High demand and a shortage of vaccine forced the state to extend the deadline from August 24th to the First. But this time, some things are different.

This year, parents are having a harder time getting their kids their shots in time. Thats because doctors offices are being invaded by a bigger problem..the flu.

"The waiting room was absolutely full. We waited over an hour and a half over all the others wo were really really sick,"Kale continued.

Marshall/Harrison County Health District has been flooded with last minute patients.

"We need these shots, we waited until the last second, can we go ahead and get them done. And we do," nurse Judy Gillard said.

If you still havent gotten your kindergartner or seventh grader vaccinated, Marshall ISD is ready to help.

"Dont panic. Just call us in the morning and the health department is open tomorrow. Were in Marshall. Marshall/Harrison County Health District has plenty of doses and well be ready to deal with immunizations tomorrow night," Crandall said.

The Marshall/Harrison County Health District is located on Lindsay Street across from the hospital.
