Sexual Predator Watch Program

Updated: February 6, 2007
Angela Brooks has one child and is expecting another. She constantly worries about where her daughter is and who she is with. The idea of a sex offender befriending her baby scares her to death. That is why the Caddo Parish Sheriff`s Office is making it easier for parents to track sexual predators. "If someone moves into your neighborhood within 48 hours you will get an e-mail notification anywhere within a mile of you of exactly where that person lives, what they look like and what they are charged with," explained Sheriff Steve Prator, Caddo Parish. "I feel more safe with my daughter, she is three, my nephew and everything, they will be fine," admitted Angela Brooks. To sign up for the free service, all citizens have to do is log on and answer a few questions. Users can enter multiple addresses they would like to monitor. Plus, if you live a third of a mile from a sex offender a postcard will also be mailed to you. "It also lets you know if there is anyone in your neighborhood within a mile of you that is a sex offender now, so the information comes to you, instead of you doing to it," commented Sheriff Prator. As for Brooks, she admits life would be different if predators weren`t tracked. "It would be a complete disaster." If you would like to sign up for the Offender Watch program, log onto www.caddosheriff.org and click on the "Tracking Sex Offenders in Caddo Parish."
