170 people work at the Coca-Cola distribution warehouse on Stoner Avenue. But next year they will be working in a new 100,000 square foot building. "We continue to grow and we need a much bigger facility to meet our needs" says Scott McCallister, the Sales Center Manager.
On Monday, September 28th ground will be broken in Shrevepark giving jobs to about 200 people building the new space.
"It's going to be a more wide-open warehouse, we're gonna have many more docks that we can turn out trucks around quicker, and service our customers quicker and just the overall environment will be better for the employees" says McCallister.
The existing, open warehouse is just 70,000 square feet. Workers have to fight the elements--- when it's hot outside--- it's hot inside-- and you can imagine when it's 100 degrees outside fans do not do much good. But next year that will change and the new warehouse will not have walls sectioning it off.
"It means alot to us. It's going to be more productive, it's really a big thing for us, we're really excited, we're anticipating the big moment. With something new, change is good" says Jason Norman who has worked there for a year.
They expect to open the new warehouse in October or November of 2010.
