By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
As children and parents prepare to Trick or Treat on Halloween tomorrow, October 31, 2006, Bossier Police Chief Mike Halphen, Fire Chief Sammy Halphen and Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator want to remind everyone to play it safe. Halloween is supposed to be an enjoyable time but it can also be dangerous. So, both chiefs recommend the following Halloween safety tips: *Trick or Treat in groups and with a responsible adult or teenager accompanying each group. *Always carry a flashlight and Trick or Treat in your own neighborhood, on well-lighted streets. *Only go to homes you know and that have a porch light on. *Trick or Treat safely by never entering a stranger`s home even if invited and never ride with a stranger. *Use sidewalks when possible. Walk! Never run across yards and look both ways before crossing streets. *Do not leave your home unattended on Halloween Night. *Children should never eat treats until a responsible grownup examines them first. *Check wrappers of pre-packaged treats for signs of tampering and throw away any items that are unwrapped. *If harmful items ar found, notify police. *Keep costumes simple. Avoid long, fancy costumes that may cause children to trip and fall. *Costumes should be flame retardant. *Be careful not to place open flames (like a candle) where children`s costumes could catch fire. *Use reflector patches or strips. Costumes made of white or light-colored material are more easily seem at night.
