Mayor Shipp is lucky to have caught his colon cancer early. As a result he's on the road to recovery a lot faster, with a lot less pain. The mayor will miss about a month from his duties at city hall. Shipp says it's a small price to pay for a life saving surgery. Shipp didn't have the usual symptoms of bleeding, stomach pains, and unusual bowel movements. He says a routine visit to the doctor led to his cancer's discovery. Now Shipp is encouraging others to take a lesson from him and get regular check ups from your doctor. "Take advantage of early screenings and have those done...," said the mayor.
He's expected to make a full recover.
