Mischievous play landed two Bossier City boys behind bars.
Overnight Saturday, fire prevention officials were called to the First Wesleyan Church on Schuler Drive.
Police told them a woman happened to pass by the church and saw the juveniles setting fire to carpeting on an attached porch near the rear of the church.
The woman was able to stomp out the fire before major damage was caused as the boys fled the seen.
Investigators don`t believe they were trying to burn down the church.
"It doesn`t appear to be an intended target, it was probably kids just curious with fire doing something they shouldn`t have been doing," said Jerry Nuckolls, Fire Prevention Assistant Chief.
After the woman identified the boys, age 11 and 12, to police, they were taken into custody at their home just down the street from the church.
They were booked in to the Bossier Parish Juvenile Detention Center on charges of simple arson of a religious building.
The damage is reported to cost less than five hundred.
Officials will report the incident to the A.T.F. on Monday.
