Texarkana police on both sides are dealing with a rash of stolen gun reports recently.

Arkansas-side police have received 33 reports of stolen guns over the last 90 days.  They have recovered 16 and made at least one arrest.  Texas-side cops are working 26 stolen guns and have recovered none.

Police say despite the increase in stolen weapons on Texarkana streets the community isn't at greater risk.  Ofc. Kristi Mitchell of TAPD says police work very aggressively to recover stolen firearms.  Mitchell says the public can take simple steps like using gun safes or gun locks to deter would-be thieves.  If those measure fail you should have your weapon's serial number handy to help police track it.

If you have any information on stolen guns call Crimestoppers at 903-793-STOP.
