"It`s just shocking it really is."
Angela Jordan still can`t believe her former minister is behind bars... Burcham Paul Warren was her childhood pastor at South Oak Grove Assembly of God church in rural DeSoto Parish.
"It`s possible anywhere. But I didn`t expect that out of him."
Police arrested Warren Tuesday accusing him of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl who is also a relative.
"We`ve received information from that victim that has led us in a direction that where we are not finished with our investigation and where we have to consider that there are other victims," said Lt. Toni Morris of the DeSoto Parish Sheriff`s Office.
William Smith says a strange encounter with Paul Warren makes him wonder the same thing.
"He seemed funny to me the first time I ever met him."
Smith and his family live across the street from South Oak Grove. He says Warren approached them last month about joining the church. Smith`s wife says she was surprised by what Warren said next.
"We`ve got a good youth group so you can bring your kids over there and we can bring them back."
The Smith`s say news of the allegations is making them re-think the motives behind the alleged encounter.
Investigators say physical evidence on the victim confirms the alleged abuse. The victim says Warren also forced her to look at pornographic pictures on his computer. And authorities confirm they found explicit images on the hard drive. Paul Warren is charged with aggravated rape. He`s being held without bond at the DeSoto Parish Detention Center. If found guilty Warren could face a serious sentence.
"It could carry the death penalty, considering the age of the child," said Lt. Morris.
