Christmas Contest Helping Cancer Patients

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Each year, LSU Health Sciences Center Foundation holds a contest for pediatric cancer patients. While waiting for treatment the children are asked to sketch a holiday scene. The sketch becomes part of a contest that`s geared at raising awareness and money for the partnership the hospital has with Saint Jude`s in Memphis. The winning art work is printed on christmas cards and t-shirts that are sold across the region. LSU Hospital is one of five Saint Jude affiliates helping make life easier for cancer patients and their families. "In those communities that are full affiliates children have the opportunity to get a large portion of their treatment in that city instead of having to relocate in memphis, so we are really glad of the impact we have on families not having to relocate during cancer treatment," said Lisa Babin, Foundation President. Lauren Heflin`s drawing is printed on this year`s christmas card. Katie Steven`s artwork was chosen for the t-shirt.
