Residents Attend Public Hearing on Neighborhood Pollution

By: Import User
Updated: February 5, 2007
Several residents from the communities surrounding the Calumet Petroleum Plant in Shreveport attended a public hearing mediated by the Department of Environmental Equality to hear about the possible expansion of the plant. Calumet is hoping to increase productivity from thirty five thousand barrels a day to almost seventy thousand. Community members at tonight`s meeting say the air quality is already in jeopardy right now and it will only get worse if the plant expands it`s productivity. The DEQ will now review the content from Thursdays hearing and make their decision on weather Calumet can go ahead with the expansion.
