Updated: January 7, 2009
The State Compensation Review Commission met Wednesday to consider pay increases for statewide elected officials and legislators and concluded they should all receive a raise. The panel recommended a 37% salary increase for the Governor, to $130,000 a year. A 30% increase for other statewide elected officials, including the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Commissioner of Agriculture, Attorney General, State Treasurer and Commissioner of Insurance was also recommended. That would boost their salaries to $115,000 annually. The committee also proposed raising legislators` base salaries about 12%, to $25,536 a year. The panal meets every other year to review state officials` salaries, comparing them to those of similar positions in other parts of the country. The recommendations will be forwarded to the legislature, who will consider the issue during the next regular session.
