Springhill Elects A Businessman As Mayor

Ezell Woods has lived in Springhill for 32 years and has seen a lot of mayors come and go, and each time he holds his breath and hopes for the best. "He`d been in out there for so long so I thought he`d just stay on in," explained Woods. Carroll Breaux beat longtime incumbent John Herrington 55% to 45%. The local businessman has lived in Springhill for over 20 years and knows the city well. Like Woods, Breaux believes the city needs to come together as a whole and eliminate any racial separation. "There may be a problem simply because the way the town is constructed because most of, the majority of the blacks live in the area and not all over town but I think that`s improving," commented Mayor Elect Carroll Breaux. Now there are plans to build a new RV park, and a park for kids in the center of town. He hopes this will allow people of all races to come together, but that doesn`t help people like Christine McCutheon she is still worried about the water. "It was a little hard to take the step and move in here because of the water problem on this side, and they`ve known about this water problem for a while," said McCutheon. However, Breaux says that problem is going to be washed away because of a $25 million project. "Which will improve our water facility throughout the city and that`s big, at the top of the list of thins happening here." As for woods, he is ready for more action and less words and thinks Breaux is going to make a difference. "I think everything is going to be all right."
