A 10-year-old seriously injured in a motocross accident three weeks ago is making a remarkable recovery. Shelli Briery caught up with Colby Murphy at rehab Friday
At the scene paramedics thought Murphy possibly broke his neck but his doctor says he suffered a brain injury.
"He sustained bleeding on his right side and it caused him to have paralysis of his arm and leg," said Willis Knighton Doctor Eric Bicknell. Four days after the accident Colby woke up in a hospital room and is now on the "track " to recovery.
Each week, Colby spends hours in therapy learning to bend and move like a normal kid. "Thursday he moved his left arm for the first time and we were just all amazed," said Colby`s mother, Cindy. He is determined to get on his bike again real soon. His hospital room is filled with trophies and racing gear for encouragement.
For now it`s racing wheelchairs and explaining how the next practice jump will be different. "Listen to your dad when he tells you not to ramp a bike that is not supposed to be ramped," exclaimed Colby.
A fund has been set up for Colby`s family at all Barksdale Federal Credit Unions; just mention Colby Murphy if you`d like to help.
