Cathy Amy and her dog Taylor enjoyed their 4th of July but Max wasnt thrilled with the festivities.
"He gets very nervous and very clingy. In fact I went out for a little while so I had to give some Benedryl to let him calm down a little bit,” admitted Cathy Amy, long time pet owner.
"They will get out of the fence, they will get out of the house and the will run and hide,” explained Annette Lewis, Caddo Parish Animal Shelter.
The Caddo Parish Animal Shelter starting receiving numerous calls Thursday morning about lost pets. It appears max wasnt the only one that was scared of the fireworks.
"We get so many dogs at this time and some of them we cant even catch because they are so freaked out and scared because they are out of their territory so they are scared anyway,” commented Lewis
"I have a good friend who has a dog and goes crazy. She has to put him in a crate just to keep him from going crazy. He just panics,” said Amy.
Many times people start looking for their pets on their own but they should also contact their local shelter.
"A lot of them dont come in to look we are the last thing they think of. Nine times out of ten were going to have our pets. Come and look,” explained Lewis.
