Arson investigators with the Shreveport Fire Department are looking into the overnight fire bombing of a local residence. Firefighters were called out to lot 64 of the Windsor Crest Mobile HOme Park, 6260 Buncomb Road, Sunday night at 11:30 p.m. for the report of a trailer fire. When they arrived, owner Mary Johnson, 38 told them that the fire started when someone threw a Molotov cocktail through one of the windows of the home. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a small, possible red car approach the trailer with its lights off just before the fire. Johnson said she and two other adults were in one end of the trailer and a 6-year-old was asleep in the other end when they heard the sound of breaking glass. They soon after saw fire and smoke in the living room. The mother of the 6-year-old rushed to the other end of the home to get the child and herself to safety. Johnson and the other occupant were also able to escape without injury. It did not take firefighters long to extinguish the blaze and were assisted by an alert neighbor who began dousing the flames with a garden hose before the SFD arrived. Most of the damage was confined to the living room of the home. Cost estimates for damage was listed at $5,000. Investigators are questioning several individuals in connection with the crime but have no suspects. Anyone with information on this or any other arson crime is asked to contact the Shreveport Fire Prevention Bureau at 673-6740.
