Joe Shyne Back on City Council Ballot...For Now

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeals has reversed a lower court decision barring Joe Shyne from running for Shreveport City Council. A lawsuit questioned whether a state pardon for a federal conviction allowed him to run for public office. District F Councilman James Green and Mayoral Candidate Max Malone filed the lawsuit claiming Shyne needs a presidential pardon. The district court agreed but the higher court, in a split decision, said Shyne could run. The Louisiana Supreme Court could review the decision upon appeal.
