Bi-State Jail Search Turns Up Empty

By: Shelli Briery
Updated: May 24, 2007
nAs a result of recent troubles with guards and inmates smuggling contraband into the Bi-State Jail, the Bowie County Sheriff decided to take action. Wednesday night deputies and K-9 officers did an impromptu search of the facilities. The results? Nothing was found.

Chief Deputy Larry Parker hopes results like this become routine. "We feel like we are moving in the right direction. I am not saying that the problem is solved but we feel like we are making headway"  Civigenics, the company which manages the jail, was recently purchased by Community Education Centers. More than 180 Civigenics employees work at the Bi-State Jail.  Since January, several guards and inmates were charged with trying to smuggle tobacco and even marijuana into the jail. Parker says more impromptu searches will be in store in the future.
