City Asks For Voluntary Water Conservation

By: Staff
Updated: May 14, 2007
The City of Shreveport is experiencing periods of low water pressure, particularly in the summer months in South and Southeast Shreveport. City Officials say they've identified a critical water pressure zone as the area bounded by Linwood Avenue to the west, Flournoy-Lucas Road to the north and Bayou Pierre to the east. The City has three water main projects that together will address the low pressure issues throughout this area.

They are 1) A new 24 inch main along the Southern Loop with a 16 inch connection along Linwood and along Wallace Lake Road to Flournoy-Lucas Road; 2) A new 60 inch water main from the Amiss Plant to connect to the existing 60 inch main at West College; 3) A new 36 inch water transmission main along the Inner Loop (LA 3132) from Walker Road to the Industrial Loop, to include a new water booster station and ground storage facility in the area of Slack Industrial Park.

These three projects will be complete by the 1st quarter of 2009. In the interim, beginning tomorrow Tuesday May 15th city officials are asking that the residents within this zone comply with a voluntary water conservation program to run from May 15th to October 1st for this year and 2008. This voluntary conservation program will limit residential and commercial irrigation to odd and even days only, based on the property street address.
