Updated: January 7, 2009
As the Shreveport mayor`s race gets underway, candidates are busy presenting their political platforms to the community. Monday afternoon they attended a mayoral forum at the "Generation Y United To Succeed" or G.U.T.S. Youth Summit. Local teens got a chance to ask the candidates their stance on a variety of issues. Some of the topics included crime prevention, economic growth and development. And while many aren`t old enough to vote, the teens say they recognize the importance of being informed on political issues "Being able to notice the trends and the promises at this age is a good learning experience. so we can make educated decisions later on when it actually comes time for us to vote." said high school senior Nadine Kaskas. The G.U.T.S. youth summit and mayoral forum was sponsored by the local YWCA, Shreveport Women`s Commssion and Shreveport Links.
