By: Staff
Updated: April 5, 2007
During the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 4, 2007 the Gregg County Sheriffs Office received a report of suspicious activity in the Rolling Meadows Additional off Hwy 2087 near Kilgore. A concerned neighbor observed a man running towards an unfamiliar vehicle parked on the roadway. Sheriffs patrol deputies responded to the call and discovered that several vehicles parked at homes in this area had been burglarized. The witness provided a description of the white male seen running from a residence where a vehicle had been burglarized. A description of the suspect vehicle was also provided by the witness. Within a few minutes Patrol Deputy, Aaron McLeroy located a blue Dodge Dynasty, 4-door passenger car at a convenience store on Hwy 349 near Kilgore. The male subject was in the process of moving items from the back seat to the vehicles trunk. The subject was later identified as Jody Wayne Walls, age: 19 of Kilgore. A female companion was also identified during the stop. Deputy McLeroy observed items in the vehicle similar to ones described as stolen in the burglaries. Sheriffs Investigator Kirk Haddix was called to the scene where he conducted interviews and investigation. The witness identified Walls as the same person that was observed running from the residence of a vehicle burglary. Two different residents were able to identify items recovered from Walls possession that had been stolen from their vehicles. Other property was also recovered and deputies are following leads that may link to other vehicle burglaries in the area. Walls was placed in custody of the Gregg County Jail on two charges of Burglary of a Vehicle and one charge of Retaliation; in connection to making a threatening comment to the witness during the identification process. Gregg County Justice of the Peace, B.H. Jameson set the bonds at $5,000.00 each on the Burglaries and $10,000.00 for Retaliation. Walls remains in custody of the Gregg County Jail at this time. No charges have been filed against the female at the time of this report.
