A Barksdale Airman has been awarded for his courageous efforts during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
We first told you about Senior Airman Elio Carrion back in January.
He was shot by a sheriff`s deputy while visiting his California home.
Carrion was given a special award Friday for his service in Iraq. His Air Force family watched as he was pinned with the Army Commendation Medal.
21-year-old, Carrion joined the Air Force in 2003.
He says he has learned a lot while serving.
"Don`t take life for granted; treasure every minute, every hour because in an instant it can be taken away."
In January, Carrion was shot three times by a sheriff`s deputy after a high speed chase.
The taped incident is tied up in court proceedings.
The deputy accused is charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for him in August.
