Celebrating "Rehabilitation and All That Jazz" was the theme for a patient reunion today at CHRISTUS St. Michael Rehabilitation Hospital in Texarkana. All That Jazz and rehab...a catchy little tune but for some at this patient reunion rehab gave them a new song to sing and a new outlook on life.
"I said I want to walk again and they said well get you back to walking." Last year, Shane Scott was in a car wreck in Queen City, Texas. "My car lost control, I hit a tree, flipped five times and was ejected out the windshield."
He was put on life support for and his mother, Sue Smith, was told to make funeral plans. But her plan was different.
"They told me to make funeral arrangements and I refused. I said he needs therapy when he gets out and I got him to St. Michael and they have been wonderful."
And today Shane is learning how to walk, thanks to help from CHRISTUS St. Michael. Shanes success story one of hundreds.
"Never give up and never take anything for granted," he says.
Its a celebration of life and achievement. And a thank you to the doctors and staff who make life a little easier when there are major barriers to overcome. Fellow rehab patient Robert Johnson says, "This rehab has been perfect. They just give me a whole new lease on life."
This is the 13th year for the CHRISTUS St. Michael rehab reunion.
