Scott Irwin: Bossier City Council District 1

Here are some comments from Scott Irwin on why he thinks he should be re-elected for Bossier City Council District 1:

• What are your qualifications for the position?  It has been a pleasure to serve the people of South Bossier for the last 3 terms on the City Council.  I have extensive experience working with the City helping solve a wide variety of issues.  I have worked to provide traffic solutions for South Bossier City: Extend the ART Parkway South to Sligo road, widen Hwy 511 to 5 lanes,build ramps at Jimmie Davis Bridge, build ramps at Shreveport/Barksdale Bridge and improvements to Hwy 71.South Bossier is a great place to raise a family, and getting better.  I have worked hard to build a new massive 100 acre park in South Bossier that will have 17 ball fields and will open the summer of 2013.  Education: Masters degree from Louisiana Tech University, Certified Financial Planner and Certified Employee Benefit Specialist, a designation earned from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.
• What do you think are the biggest challenges facing your town/city/district?   The biggest challenge in South Bossier continues to be traffic.  The new parkway extension south to Parkway High School will help reduce traffic on Hwy 71.  This will greatly assist residents in South Bossier as they exit their neighborhoods and enter Hwy 71.  There are still improvements to be made at each intersection in South Bossier.  One that will happen soon is a new J turn just north of Robert E Lee.  More improvements are planned.  During my time on the Council we were able to build rail road safety gates at all crossings in South Bossier.  It is now time to rebuild the surface of each rail road crossing in South Bossier.  They are developing ruts.  Another need in South Bossier is continued improvements to roads inside neighborhoods.  Many concrete panels have been replaced, but we need to continue to repair the roads and sidewalks to keep our part of town looking nice.
• If elected, what will you do to help your constituents?   What I have done over the past 3 terms, and plan to do if re elected is to listen to the people.  I have a neighborhood association in South Bossier.  That association has a board made up of a resident of each neighborhood.  Anyone is welcome to serve on the board.  We meet 6 times a year to discuss needs in neighborhoods.  Topics range from crime to street repairs.  We try to take care of problems before they get big.  We hold 3 General meetings a year and bring City Hall to South Bossier.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Specifically I plan to continue traffic solutions in South Bossier with improvements to Hwy 71.  Fight crime by supporting our public safety employees, both police and fire.  The new 100 acre park in South Bossier will become operational in summer of 2013.  I plan continued improvements to parks and recreation.
