A local third grade class is taking what they learned from a reading lesson and helping a family in another country in need. Some third graders at Kerr Elementary in Bossier City have been reading a book called "Beatrice's Goat."
In the story a non-profit called Heifer International donated a goat to a needy family, so the class decided they would raise money and to the same for a family in Africa.
"The response was overwhelming.
We had a goal for just one goat and we ended up raising enough (money) for
three goats through donations from parents and the businesses and other
sponsors," said Jennifer Hicks, third grade teacher.
The family in Africa receiving
the goats will be able to sell the milk to generate an income and further
provide for themselves, thanks to these students.
