Have you ever wanted to know when a severe storm is headed your way, or if a tornado is about to strike?

Well now there's a new app for that.

The North Texas Region of the American Red Cross came up with the Tornado Warning App.

Launched just over a week ago, the program lets you see and hear alerts of possible severe weather in your area.

It also has other features like quizzes, interactive programs, and information about nearby shelters; and it'll let you notify someone in case you're stuck somewhere (debris, under a building, etc.).

Executive Director, John Davis, says it's something everyone should get.

"You can never be entirely ready for an earthquake, for a tornado, for a flood," said Davis. "However you can take steps to make sure the loss of life and loss of material belongings is lessened through preparedness."

The app is free, and is available to anyone with an Android or iPhone.

For more information you can follow this link: http://www.redcross.org/mobile-apps/tornado-app

You can also call "REDCROSS" (73327677) from your mobile phone and a link will be sent for you to download the app from.

Or you can download them directly from the iTunes or Google Play app stores.
