The Port City is set to host the NAACP's regional conference.   The three day event kicks off Thursday.

Some of the highlights include a public hearing called "Crime in the Black Community" at 4:30pm.  A Gospel Extravaganza will take place at 6:30 Thursday night.   Both are free to the public.

Saturday the organization's national president Benjamin Jealous will speak at a Freedom Fund Dinner at 7pm at the Shreveport Convention Center.  Individual tickets are $60.

500 students and adults from five states will be in town for the conference.
