Rezoning airport property near the Mooretown community isn't going over too well with neighbors. They say they're fighting to preserve their community.
Last month
residents received a letter about plans to rezone property near the 6300 block
of Kennedy Drive. It's currently a
residential area and Shreveport Regional Airport officials want to change it
into an industrial zone.
The letter says
the industrial zoning----allows businesses like truck stops or machine shops to
utilize the space. That's something
several residents don't agree with.
The Armored
Car Company wanted to open up shop, but aren't able to at this time because of
the current residential zoning status.
Mark Crawford, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the Shreveport
Airport Authority says they're trying to be in compliance with Federal Aviation
Administration regulations. Crawford says
there are no plans for a truck stop on airport property.
The final decision on the rezoning will be left up to the Metropolitan Planning Commission. The group is holding a public hearing Tuesday. It will be held at Government Plaza
