Baton Rouge Judge Michael Caldwell says Governor Bobby Jindal's revamp of teacher tenure laws is illegal because it was included in legislation that had too many other items, according to NBC 6 News' sister station, NBC 33 News in Baton Rouge.

Caldwell, who scrapped other parts of the law in December, claiming they limited the authority of local school systems.

Caldwell agrees with the Louisiana Federation of Teachers that the entire bill must be thrown out. He says the tenure rule is crammed into legislation with too many other items.

Today, the Jindal administration announced it will appeal Caldwell's ruling.

NBC6 News Marquel Sennet is tracking the story in northwest Louisiana, and she'll update with response from local educators. Be sure to watch her stories tonight on NBC6 News.
