The Louisiana Sheriff's Association held its Mid-Winter Conference this week at the Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City.
Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington hosted the event. Nearly 60 Sheriffs from parishes across the state met to discuss how federal and state laws affect local citizens.
The main topics were court security, violence in schools, emergency preparedness, and criminal sex operations.
Louisiana Sheriffs are unique among their national counterparts. They not only serve as chief law enforcement officer, they're also chief officer of the court, and the official tax collector for their parishes.
