The City of Shreveport is going the extra mile to improve affordable housing for residents in the MLK area.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover along with other state and federal officials were on hand for Tuesday morning's groundbreaking ceremony at Cypress Landing.

The event marks the revitalization of the apartment complex on Shreveport-Blanchard Hwy near Southern University.

The renovations will include numerous interior and exterior improvements.  Each unit will also have a washer and dryer.

The City of Shreveport is teaming up with The Michaels Development Company on the $11.4 million dollar project.

A single person must make less than 24-thousand dollars a year to qualify.

The Shreveport Housing Authority is looking into providing similar housing in the Allendale community and other neighborhoods.
