Clint Harper Named Athletic Director/Head Football Coach at Marshall

MARSHALL, Texas - Marshall ISD officially introduced Clint Harper as the district's new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach on Monday.
Harper, a Marshall native and a member of the Marshall High School Class of 1994, was officially named the Mavericks' next coach following a recommendation from Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith and a vote by the MISD Board of Trustees at a special-called meeting Monday.
Harper returns to his hometown, where he played quarterback for the Mavericks under Marshall's all-time winningest coach, Bill Harper. Clint's father, Sid, was also a longtime assistant coach with the Mavericks under coaches Dennis Parker and Bill Harper.
"I was asked in an interview during my senior season where I hoped to be in 10 years," Clint Harper said during a press conference following the board meeting on Monday, which was attended by both media and a room full of community members. "I said I want to be the head coach of the Marshall Mavericks. It took 20 years but this is a dream come true for me."
"We are very pleased to be able to bring Clint Harper to Marshall as our new head coach and athletic director," said Dr. Smith. "I am pleased with how the search process went and I am excited to work with Coach Harper and his vision for Maverick athletics."
Harper has been the head coach at Leander High School the last two seasons, compiling a 19-6 overall record that included two trips to the third round of the playoffs. He was named the District 16-5A Coach of the Year and the CenTex Coach of the Year following his first season as head coach in 2011.
Prior to being named head coach, Harper had served as Leander's offensive coordinator and had been on staff with the Lions since 2006. Prior to that he had worked as offensive coordinator at Goose Creek ISD in Baytown from 2003-2006, and was receivers coach at Jacksonville from 2000-03. Harper began his coaching career as offensive coordinator at Troup from 1998-2000.
Following his graduation from Marshall, Harper played football and also was the first student assistant coach at Hardin-Simmons University under former Cowboys coach Jimmie Keeling. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1998.
Harper's official first day with the district will be on Monday, March 4.
"I know first-hand how passionate this community is about its athletics and its children," Harper said. "I was one of them and I have great memories of being a Maverick and experiencing the tradition of Maverick football. My goal is to get all of our programs, both boys and girls, back to being dominant. I am looking forward to the challenge and getting to work."
