Texas woman gives furry friends a fur-ever home

A lady in Bloomburg, Texas is doing what she can to give some furry friends, a fur-ever home.

Three years ago, Sarah Ridpath, started 2nd Chance Fur Babies.

It's a no-kill animal rescue that gives our four-legged friends the care they need before being adopted.

Sarah Ridpath loves dogs.

"They're little people to me," Ridpath says. "I know they're animals, they can't talk, but they can look you and I can tell by the look in their eyes if they're happy or sad."

And after seeing many that deserved a second chance get disposed of, she decided to turn her home into a rescue.

"There's nowhere for them to go, so people either dump them or try and find a place to take them and there's not anything here. If I see them on the side of the road and can do anything about it, I'll stop and pick it up."

And at the start of 2013 she had rescued more than 100 dogs.

"I see poor little animals that just need help. They just need somebody that understands them, that'll speak for them because they can't speak for themselves."

Since 2nd Chance Fur Babies first started in 2010, she's kept more than 300 dogs from death. But i doesn't stop there because there are big plans in the future for this no kill animal rescue.

"We want to build a facility for the animals, we want to do a dog park, there's going to be a pet cemetary, there's going to be a walking trail."

And while caring for more than 60 dogs on donations alone, she knows it won't be a walk in the park.

"I've got to get my vet bills paid off, I've got to get their shots done, I need to get the spay and neuters done and we need to get these guys adopted."

And says no matter what happens to her, the dogs will always come first.

"It's all about the animals. I don't care what I have to give up, I don't care what I go without, as long as these animals are taken care of, that's all I have. They're my life and my family and I take care of all of them, love them, and let them be dogs again."

Last year, TJ Maxx, Wal Mart, and Tractor Supply donated a total of almost $7,000 worth of supplies to 2nd Chance Fur Babies.

She can always use more.

An adoption event will be held February 23rd, from 11-4 at Tractor Supply in Atlanta. Tysons Catering will be there as well and are donating their proceeds that day to Fur Babies.
