Basketball teams are taking over Shreveport this weekend for the 25th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Tournament. It all tips off Friday night with a Slam Dunk Contest at Southern Hills Community Center at 7:30 P.M.
A couple of the participants were practicing their shots Thursday morning at the center.
Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation Department officials hope the community comes out to watch all the games.
"I actually enjoy Sunday. It's nice to see kids work and fellowship together. Even teams that lose come to championship games," said Gerod Jones, Superintendent of Athletics, SPAR.
"The point is to be as creative as you can. Get crowd into dunk contest. I'm not going to show everything, but hopefully I can pull something out," said Jasaaon Roberson, participant.
The tournament is a double elimination with a single elimination championship game.
