The Fuller Center for Housing of Northwest Louisiana has begun its "Veteran's Build 2013.
Four homes will be constructed on vacant lots at the corner of Martha and Olive Street in Shreveport's Stoner Hill neighborhood. The land was donated to the Fuller Center by the City of Shreveport.
Veterans completing the Volunteers of America Transitional Living Program are being selected to move into the homes. So far, Cliff Malone has been selected. There are six other veterans competing for the other three homes.
The Fuller Center hopes to have the homes move-in ready by June.
A major contributor to the project is rock legend Roger Waters; he has donated $300,000 toward the construction of the homes. Fuller Center Executive Director Lee Jeter Sr., hopes the community will match or surpass that donation so more veterans' homes can be built on that corner.
Jeter also needs volunteers to help build the homes. Volunteers are needed from Mar. 9 until May 31. Here's a link to where you can sign up.
